15th Annual IP Conference organised by the USCIPI concludes at the Chinese University of Hong Kong

The 15th Annual Intellectual Property Conference organised by the United States China Intellectual Property Institute (USCIPI) and supported by several organisations including KitChan Law offices based in NY and HK, was successfully held in Hong Kong SAR at the China University of Hong Kong Graduate Law School (CUHK) between July 27-29. The conference theme was : Navigating Innovation & IP Amid Global Turbulence, and covered pivotal topics in IP Commercialisation in AI, ChatGPT, IP Licensing , IP & Life Sciences, Tech Transfer, NFT and Data Governance, Trademarks and Unfair Competition, and Financing.




Dr Albert Wai Kit Chan Introduction


Dr Albert Wai Kit Chan’s leadership and expertise has once again brought together such a wonderful cast of high calibre speakers in HK at one of the foremost IP events of the region He was awarded his Ph.D. in virology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and he completed his postdoctoral training at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in New York as an American Cancer Society postdoctoral fellow . As a former research scientist he developed his legal career by combining his training as a molecular biologist with the emerging legal needs of the biotechnology industry in the late 1980s. He has been instrumental in helping scores of scientists and inventors obtain the intellectual property protection they need to be competitive in their fields and his clients range from individual inventors to up-and-coming companies to well-established prestigious research institutes. Amongst other things, Dr Chan is frequently involved in transactional work in China, which includes facilitating joint ventures and patent enforcement.



From 1996 through 2013, Dr. Chan taught as an adjunct professor of law at The City University of New York School of Law. His classes included intellectual property law, patent law, technology transfer, Internet and the law, food and drug law, and international business law. He is currently adjunct associate professor in the School of Life Sciences at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and has adjunct professorship in the Department of Health Technology and Informatics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Dr. Chan is active in a number of legal organizations including, among others, United States-China Intellectual Property Institute, Inc. (a New York Not-For-Profit Corporation) where he is founder and director.



Mr Leo Liu, Partner, Victory Group and co-founder of the Tech Transfer Alliance ( Macao) as a practicing Patent Attorney in Mainland China for over 15 years, was invited to give talk during the pre conference meeting, sharing his expertise in dealing with counterfeit products at Trade Shows through his role as part of the Exhibition IP enforcement teams.





Prior to the pandemic, Victory Group International hosted the Macau Station of the seminar, which also included other stops in Zhuhai SEZ, Foshan City, as well as the capital Guangzhou.
